山形はすっかり冬になりました。私の故郷のイギリスでは、雪はあまり降らないので、この美しい雪景色に魅せられています。風景全体が白く輝く毛布に覆われるようで、壮観です。

冬の時期に最高の、山形の観光地の一つが銀山温泉です！私も今年のクリスマスに母と行ってきました。銀山温泉は大石田、尾花沢に近い、山間にひっそりと佇む伝統的な温泉街です。むき出しの木組みと白い漆喰の壁が美しい旅館は、遠い昔を懐かしむような気持ちにさせてくれます。また、「千と千尋の神隠し」の世界のモデルとなった温泉街の一つとも言われています。

旅館に泊まる予算や時間がない方でも、ご安心ください。日帰り入浴も可能で、料金もお手頃です。

温泉だけでなく、おいしいカフェやレストランもたくさんありますし、私が大好きなこけしの絵付け体験もできます。私が塗ったこけしは最後の写真でご覧ください。絵付けが私の天職かどうかはわかりませんが…

夜になると電灯が灯り、幻想的な雰囲気になります。次に行くときには、一泊してその全貌を見たいと思います。

Hi everyone! Long time no see! It is Jess from the Prefectural Government Office!

Winter has well and truly arrived in Yamagata. Where I am from in the UK, it does not snow a lot, so I continually find myself totally in awe at all of the beautiful snow here. The whole landscape is covered in a shimmering white blanket, and looks spectacular.

One of the best places to spend winter in Yamagata is Ginzan Onsen! I went with my mother this year for Christmas. Ginzan Onsen is a traditional hot spring town nestled away in the mountains, near Oishida. The beautiful ryokan, with exposed woodwork and white plaster walls, make one feel nostalgic for a time long ago. It also said to be one of the hot spring towns that the world of Spirited Away is based on.

If you do not have the budget or time to stay overnight in one of the ryokan, worry not! Day onsens are also available and inexpensive.

Aside from hot springs, the town also boasts a number of delicious cafes and restaurants, and my personal favourite attraction- a kokeshi-doll painting experience. Please swipe to the end to see my kokeshi doll. I am not sure painting is my calling…

When it gets late at night, the lanterns turn on and create a magical atmosphere. Next time I go, I want to stay overnight to see them at their full potential. I cannot recommend a trip to Ginzan Onsen more! Please come and experience the magic for yourself!
