私が初めて日本に来たとき、みんなが私に、日本にははっきりとした四季があると教えてくれました。

正直に言うと、はじめは信じていませんでした。北半球のほとんどの国にも四季の移ろいはあるんじゃない？

ですが山形に完全な秋が訪れた今、なぜそう言われているのかが分かりました。

10月の中旬から11月の下旬にかけて、山形は鮮やかな秋色に溢れます。深みある赤、濃いオレンジ、ビビッドな黄色が、山形全域に渡り、景色のあちらこちらに現れます。これは本当に見ものです。

山形にある有数の紅葉スポットの一つであるもみじ公園は、山形大学のメインキャンパスからたった徒歩5分です！私も先週初めて行きましたが、市の中央にあるにも関わらず、穏やかで静かな雰囲気があり、良い意味で驚きました。

もみじとは日本語で「maple（カエデ）」を表す言葉です。もみじ公園は、周囲を美しく深い赤に染める、たくさんのカエデの木々に囲まれていています。敷地内には茶室もあり、訪れた人が座って、リラックスし、紅葉を楽しむことができます。

もみじ公園は入場無料で、大学からも近いため、留学生が秋の色づきを楽しむには最適な場所です！ぜひ行ってみてください！

Hi everyone! My name is Jess, the International Relations Coordinator from the Prefectural Government Office.

When I first arrived to Japan, everyone told me that Japan has four unique seasons. At first, to be honest, I scoffed at this. Doesn’t nearly every country in the northern hemisphere experience the changing of seasons? However, now that autumn has well and truly arrived in Yamagata, I understand where they are coming from.

Yamagata Prefecture is awash with vivid autumn colours from mid-October to late November. Deep reds, rich oranges, and vivid yellows dapple the scenery across the entire prefecture. It is truly a sight to behold.

One of the most famous spots for autumn leaves in Yamagata, Momiji Park, is only a 5 minute walk from the main university campus! I visited last week for the first time and was pleasantly surprised to find out that despite being in the center of the city, the park has a serene and quiet atmosphere.

Momiji is the Japanese word for “maple”. The park is surrounded by an abundance of maple trees that paint the environment a beautiful deep red. There is also a tea room inside the park, allowing visitors to sit down, relax, and enjoy the foliage.

Momji Park is free to enter, and with its close proximity to the university, it makes the perfect place for exchange students to check out the autumn colours! Please check it out for yourself!
